Founded in 1844, Hillsdale College in rural southern Michigan is an independent, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with a student body of about 1,400.
Hillsdale College is now completing the document volumes in the Official Biography of Winston Churchill, and is the publisher of this entire work. This work is connected to the mission of Hillsdale College because, as the Classics teach, one may learn the art of statesmanship and of citizenship by studying those who have the reputation for it. The life of Churchill presents an unsurpassed opportunity for this study because it was so long, the facts of it were so well recorded and the quality of his words and deeds was so very high. Hillsdale College is also the home of the archive of Sir Martin Gilbert, the official biographer of Churchill from 1968 until 2012.
